Ubitec involved in implementation of energy storage project in Ikaalinen
Ubitec Oy was involved in the implantation of a 14 MW energy storage project in Ikaalinen. the The electrical and automation technical integration of the battery energy storage system were supplied by Profigrid Oy, and the client was MW Storage Nordic Oy. Ubitec acted as the electrical contractor in the project responsible for all installations related to electricity distribution and equipment, medium and low voltage technology, and control technology.
According to Ubitec CEO Leo Nokelainen, the project was an important milestone for Ubitec in the field of new technologies and green transition projects.
“We want to be involved in building new smart technology projects that are vital for the energy transition and future climate goals and apply our know-how gained from our process and energy industry projects in them.”
Energy storage systems will play a big role in the future
Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are suitable for balancing the frequency and voltage fluctuations of the electric network. They function not only as electrical capacity but also as an electrical load, and their batteries are suitable for stabilising rapid power fluctuations in the electrical grid.
“Energy storage systems will play a big role in the future, not only in harvesting clean energy and optimising electricity supply, but also in stabilising the network’s transmission capacity. This enables efficient and flexible utilisation of renewable energy, as well as security of energy supply,” Nokelainen says.
The energy storage system in Ikaalinen will be connected to the distribution network of Leppäkosken Sähkö Oy. Ubitec implemented the project in close cooperation with Profigrid Oy.
“The installation work was carried out with Ubitec successfully and on schedule. We can now move on to the commissioning phase of the project,” says Marko Räty, CEO of Profigrid.
